Autologous Stem Cell Transplant

Autologous Stem Cell Transplant

An Autologous Stem Cell Transplant is usually done for patients who are about to go under cancer treatment which involve chemotherapy, radiation or immunotherapy. Autologous stem cell transplant is done by taking patient’s own stem cell, when they are in healthy condition or are not affected by any radiation or chemotherapy.

Yashoda Hospitals are known for offering holistic treatment to its patients. At our cancer centre we make sure that our patients get the best opinion from the world’s best experts who are core members of our team. They not only counsel each patient but also make sure that they be with them during the course of their treatment.

Autologous stem cell transplant is used for different blood cancers. Before, the treatment begins; the doctors extract the healthy stem cells from patient’s body and preserve it. It helps in making chemotherapy procedure more effective as the risk of damage to healthy stem cells is averted. After the chemotherapy is done the healthy stem cells are injected again in patient’s body which also helps in increasing their immunity.

How does it work?
The stem cells will either be collected from blood stream (by giving medicine which induce stem cells in blood) or directly through hip bone. After the collection, the stem cells will be separated from blood and will be preserved.

How does chemotherapy work?
At Yashoda Hospitals, the team of doctors make every effort to make the treatment as smooth as it can be. After the stem cell extraction, the doctors will begin with chemotherapy and will give high dosage of medicine to attack the cancer cells. After chemotherapy, doctors will inject the healthy stem cells.

How much time will it take for my immune system to work fine?
After the procedure, it might take more than 3-6 months for immune system to recover after the autologous transplant.
